Retinal Microcirculation in Vivo.
نویسندگان
چکیده
A method is described which makes possible the direct microscopic observation of the living retinal microcirculation in the relatively intact globe of animals at magnifications up to ~xl,000. Observations have been made on acute preparations and repeated after intervals as long as six weeks. Observations have been documented in photomicrographs and cinephotographs. Under the conditions of the experiment the fiow of blood in the microvascular bed of the retina is characterized by its steadiness and high linear velocity. The capillaries appear to be akoays open to the fiow of erythrocytes.

In vivo evaluation of platelet-endothelial interactions in retinal microcirculation of rats.
PURPOSE This study was designed to develop a new method to evaluate the dynamics of platelets in the retinal microcirculation in vivo and to investigate quantitatively the platelet-endothelial interactions in rat retina with the use of this system. METHODS Isolated platelet samples were labeled with carboxyfluorescein diacetate succinimidyl ester. After intravenous administration, platelet be...

PURPOSE The behavior of the retinal microcirculation and its role in the progression of ocular disease is of considerable interest, yet few details are known about the flow of blood through the capillary networks of the retina. Although retinal vessels may be viewed through the pupil using standard optics, the optical limitations of the cornea and lens prevent the resolution of retinal features...
متن کاملEffect of posterior sub-tenon administration of triamcinolone acetonide on leukocyte dynamics in rat retinal microcirculation after panretinal photocoagulation.
PURPOSE Macular edema is one of the serious side effects associated with panretinal photocoagulation (PRP). The inhibitory effect of triamcinolone acetonide (TA) on leukocyte-endothelial cell interactions in vivo after PRP was evaluated. METHODS Argon laser photocoagulation was performed in one half of the retinas in male Brown Norway rats. Experimental rats were injected with 2 mg TA (50-mic...
متن کاملIn vivo evaluation of leukocyte dynamics in retinal ischemia reperfusion injury.
PURPOSE To evaluate quantitatively leukocyte dynamics in vivo in the rat retinal microcirculation during ischemia reperfusion injury with the use of acridine orange digital fluorography. METHODS Retinal ischemia was induced in anesthetized pigmented rats by a temporary ligation of the optic nerve. After 60 minutes of ischemia, leukocyte behavior in the retinal microcirculation was evaluated, ...
متن کاملQuantitative evaluation of leukocyte dynamics in retinal microcirculation.
PURPOSE Leukocyte rheology may play a key role in microcirculation because leukocytes have unique properties, such as large cell volume, high cytoplasmic rigidity, and low deformability. However, only a few methods are available to study the dynamic behavior of leukocytes in retinal microcirculation. The authors developed a new method to analyze directly movements of leukocytes in the retinal v...
متن کاملIn vivo demonstration of increased leukocyte entrapment in retinal microcirculation of diabetic rats.
PURPOSE Leukocytes have been reported to be less deformable and more activated in diabetes. It has also been suggested that they cause microvascular occlusions that may cause diabetic microangiopathy. This study was designed to evaluate in vivo leukocyte dynamics in the retinal microcirculation of diabetic rats. METHODS Streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats 4 weeks after diabetes inducti...
